There’s no doubt that people will have countless questions in their minds that they would want to address. So, here are the answers to the most common questions regarding breast implants.
Do I Opt For Silicone or Saline?
These two heavyweights have taken over the battle for the perfect breasts since the 60’s. But, what is the difference and which one would suit you the best?
Silicone
Silicone is the most popular choice and has been for many decades because this option feels the most natural. Silicone has earned a bad reputation in the past with people arguing it can lead to breast cancer and other connective diseases, however, this has been disproved. The European Committee on Quality Assurance and Medical Devices in Plastic Surgery (EQUAM) concluded that there is no proof to support these claims. In fact, silicone is a key ingredient in many beauty products, such as lipstick and beauty creams, and women get more silicone from these than they would from implants.
Saline
Saline implants comprise of a weak salt solution similar to body fluids. The only disadvantage is these can ripple and feel ‘squishy’ because they are made of water.
Things You Need To Know Before Your Breast Augmentation Surgery
We recommend you follow these guidelines before you opt for Breast Augmentation Surgery.
- Let your plastic surgeon call the shots, since they would be the best judge - Be sure to ask the right questions about your anatomy (ie: is one shoulder higher than the other, one breast larger or higher, and so on) to fully understand what your breasts will look like post-surgery. Your surgeon will measure your body as well as evaluate your skin elasticity and muscle at your consultation. From there, he or she will make a recommendation for what type of implant will suit your body best.
- CC size is not equivalent to cup size - CC sizes look different in every.single.woman. So while your dream chest’s stats are noted at 400cc’s, your height and chest cavity are certainly different than your dream chest, therefore, your cc’s may be adjusted as well.
- You should be willing to take time off - You will need to take adequate time off from work and especially at the gym. Recliners will become your best friend for the first couple of weeks. Lifting your chest in that post-surgery can be hard. Sleeping is uncomfortable, so props and recliners quickly become necessities. Say a little goodbye to stomach sleeping, too. It’s just never the same after a breast augmentation.
- Your body will most probably change on a weekly basis – We recommend for you not to buy any expensive bras at first because your size will adjust and change for the first few months as your breasts settle and drop in their final place. But, we can assure you that you will LOVE the end result.
The Most Common Questions Asked After Breast Surgery?
Being experts in this field, we highly recommend that you follow these FAQ’s as a form of a guideline after your breast surgery.
Can I Go On Holiday After Surgery?
Usually it’s best to wait 2 weeks post-op to fly short-haul, and 6 weeks to fly long-haul. You have to ensure that your boobs are covered and lathered up with some good old SPF, paying attention to your scars.
When would I be Able to use Sunbeds again?
If you want to use sunbeds soon after recovery, you should aim to protect the entire breast. Use a good SPF sun cream, and pay attention to your scars when layering up. We also recommend wearing plasters over your scars, and choose thick, opaque material to cover your boobs with. Most importantly, make sure you wait 6-8 weeks post-surgery.
When Can I wear normal bras after after surgery?
You should wait 6 weeks until you wear regular bras, bear in mind that you might need to wait longer to introduce underwired ones again. But this all depends on how long it takes for your scars to heal.
Would I be able to go braless after surgery?
We advise you to be extremely careful about the material under your boobs, though- you don’t want stray jewels and buttons aggravating your scars. And remember, you should only go braless after 6 weeks.
Should I exercise after Breast Augmentation?
Think about some REALLY gentle exercise ideas.
- Immediately after surgery – Rest as much as possible and don’t do any exercise.
- 1 week after – Don’t rush back into your exercise routine. Start slowly with light exercises such as small tasks around the house or garden.
- Week 2 –You should avoid exercise for the upper body for 6 weeks. Focus on the lower body only. Try light cardio and low impact exercises such as leg lifts on walking on a treadmill.
- Week 6 – Most of your swelling should have subsided. Start to introduce light upper body exercise into your routines such as lower weight and reps. Don’t push your body beyond its comfort levels. It takes time to heal fully!
When Should I take bath after surgery?
You can have a tepid bath or shower (we’re not talking power mode) 1-2 weeks after your boob job, but try to keep your dressing dry. If it’s a bath you’re craving, consider buying a bath pillow to prop yourself up with.
