What To Expect?
Breast augmentation can be performed in an outpatient hospital setting or surgical facility. Most likely, you'll return home that day. Rarely does the surgery necessitate a hospital stay.
Breast augmentation procedures occasionally include local anesthetic while the area around your breasts is numbed while you are awake. However, breast augmentation is frequently performed under general anesthesia, putting you to sleep throughout the procedure. With you, your plastic surgeon will go over your alternatives for anesthesia.
During the process:
- Your plastic surgeon will make a single cut (incision) in one of three locations to install the breast implant:
- The crease under your breast (inframammary)
- Under your arm (axillary)
- Around your nipple (periareolar)
- The surgeon will separate your breast tissue from the muscles and connective tissue of your chest after making an incision. The outcome is the formation of a pocket either in front of or behind the outermost muscle of the chest wall.
- The implant will be positioned in the center of this pocket behind your nipple by the surgeon.
- Saline implants are first placed with no liquid inside before being filled with sterile salt water. Silicone gel is already inside silicone implants.
- The incision is usually stitched up once the implant has been placed, and it is then bandaged with skin adhesive and surgical tape.
After The Process:
- After surgery, there may be some swelling and pain for a few weeks. Bruising is also possible. Scars should lighten with time but not totally vanish.
- Wearing a compression bandage or sports bra could be beneficial for further support and alignment of the breast implants while you're healing. Additionally, your surgeon might recommend painkillers.
- Follow your surgeon's recommendations for when to resume your normal activities. You might be able to go back to work in a few weeks if you don't have a physically demanding job.
- For at least two weeks, refrain from engaging in any demanding activities that could increase your heart rate or blood pressure.
- While you're recovering, keep in mind that your breasts will be delicate to abrupt movements or physical contact.
- You will require a follow-up consultation to have the stitches removed if your surgeon used those that won't dissolve on their own or if they inserted drainage tubes close to your breasts.
- If you have warmth and redness in your breasts or if you're feverish, you may have an infection. As soon as you can, get in touch with your surgeon.
- If you experience chest pain or shortness of breath, you should also call your surgeon.
