PRP Ultra

Our PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) treatment employs the skin’s growth factors and uses your own blood’s natural healing cells for repairing tendon damage and treating the pain due to chronic wear and injuries. Here’s everything you need to know.
We use PRP most commonly to treat damage at:
  • Tendon attachments at your elbow (golfer’s elbow and tennis elbow)
  • Patellar tendon (jumper’s knee)
  • Achilles tendon (attaching the calf muscles to the heels)
  • Plantar fascia (heel spurs)
  • Sports injuries like knee sprains
  • Hamstring origin
To be successful, an image-guided injection is required under a complete rehabilitation program supervised by our surgeon.
We ensure you an effective PRP Ultra treatment. Our expert will first draw your blood sample. The quantity of this sample depends on the site of PRP injection. For instance, we take 20ml blood to inject into the scalp. The sample is next placed in a centrifuge. It spins around very fast and separates your blood components. This takes about 15 minutes. Our technologist will obtain your separated plasma and prepare it to inject into your affected area. Our doctors will often employ imaging like Ultrasound for pinpointing particular areas like the tendon for injection. The PRP will then be injected into your affected site. The entire process will last around 1 hour.
Although there are risks associated with the injection itself, such as infection, nerve injuries, pain at your injection site and tissue damage, our doctors take adequate care to minimise such risks.
Since PRP injections aim at promoting growth or healing, you might not find an instant difference after getting the injections. However, in a number of weeks or months, you should observe that the treated site is recovering faster or growing more hair than you expected without PRP injections.
Our PRP Ultra treatment has several types of applications such as:
  • Hair loss treatment
Our expert will inject PRP into your scalp for improving hair growth and preventing hair loss. A research of 2014 showed that PRP injections can efficiently treat androgenic alopecia (male pattern baldness).
  • Tendon injuries treatment
Tendons are thick, tough tissue bands connecting muscles to bones. They generally heal slowly after an injury. Our doctors use PRP injections for treating chronic tendon issues like patellar tendon pain at the knee (jumper’s knee), Achilles tendonitis at ankle and tennis elbow.
  • Acute injuries treatment
Our doctors also use PRP injections for treating severe sports injuries such as knee sprains or pulled hamstring muscles.
  • Postsurgical repair
In some cases, our doctors use PRP injections post-surgery for repairing your torn ligaments (like ACL or the Anterior Cruciate Ligament) or a torn tendon (like a rotator cuff tendon in your shoulder).
  • Osteoarthritis treatment
Our doctors inject PRP into the knees if you have osteoarthritis. A 2015 study revealed that PRP injections were more beneficial than HA (hyaluronic acid) injections that were traditional therapy for osteoarthritis. However, since the study was for 160 people only, therefore larger studies are required to conclude its effectiveness.
La Midas Recommendations
At La Midas, when our surgeon injects PRP into your injured area, he may recommend you to rest the site for your injury rather than your injections. You’re expected to continue regular activities post-treatment.
Redness will show and disappear within 1-3 days. Your treated skin might feel swollen, dry, tight and sensitive, darkening and flaking away within a week.
We provide the following additional recommendations:
  • Don’t exfoliate or pick the area and let it flake off naturally.
  • Beginning on the evening of your treatment, wash the face gently twice daily with our provided mild cleanser. Then apply our prescribed HA serum or creams to nourish new collagen. Don’t apply makeup for 1 day.
  • Avoid sun exposure for 3-7 days. We recommend using a full-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher.
  • Avoid exercises causing sweating or skin-heating for 3 days.
  • You may take Tylenol for discomfort and ice packs for minimising swelling.
