The health of women refers to complete physical, mental and social well being along with her reproductive health. It is important to maintain a woman's intimate health for overall physical and emotional well being.1 in 5 women associate gynecological cancers with sexual promiscuity.Having healthy intercourse not only improves sleep quality but also reduces stress. There are various myths associated with the loosening of the vagina. Many people think that having intercourse causes laxity on the female body. However, there is no such evidence to it. The pelvic floor muscles surround the vagina keeping the vagina, womb, bladder, and rectum in the correct position. The loosening of these muscles can make the vagina less tight. The elasticity of the vagina causes the muscles to stretch and contract. With increasing age and childbirth, the pelvic muscles may weaken which can lead to a feeling of looseness in the vagina.
Vaginal rejuvenation is a procedure that treats problems that occur mainly due to the delivery or aging process which includes laxity, vaginismus, atrophy and aging signs. The procedure aims to tighten the vagina , improves vaginal dryness, resolve the problem of urinary incontinence as well as improves painful intercourse giving relief in intimate dysfunction. Besides, there are energy-based non-surgical treatments that enhance blood circulation, improve laxity and provide lubrication in the vagina.

According to gynecologists, there are a few myths related to vaginal hygiene and laxity that one should stop believing.
Myth 1: Removing pubic hair keeps the vagina and outer genitals clean.
Most women consider that removing pubic hair keeps the vagina and outer genitals clean. There is no evidence for this. Also, incorrect way of shaving or waxing can cause skin infection and can lead to injury and ingrown hairs.
Myth 2: Douches and feminine sprays are harmless and cover up the smell.
Douches are scented waters that are applied inside the vagina for cleansing purposes. However, vagina works on the self-cleaning mechanism and applying douches can push existing bacteria into the cervix thereby, leading to serious infection. Every vagina has its unique and natural odor and so it is not a matter of concern. Besides, sprays containing chemicals do not clean the vagina. These might wash away healthy bacteria in the vagina and therefore, should be avoided.
Myth 3: Vaginal steaming cleanses the area of impurities
Applying steam over the vagina can cause serious burns and may upset the natural bacteria production that keeps the vagina healthy and balanced. Also, if the steam has any scents or components, it may cause irritation or imbalance of vaginal pH.
Myth 4: Vagina loosens with intercourse
It is simply a myth that the vagina becomes permanently stretched with intercourse. The pelvic muscles may get loose due to childbirth or aging factor.
Myth 5: Intact hymen ensures that the female is virgin
The hymen is a thin membrane covering the entrance to the vagina. It can be torn or stretched due to vaginal intercourse or any kind of rigorous physical activity like cycling, swimming, medical procedures or use of a tampon. Therefore, the presence or absence of hymen has no link with virginity.
