What is acne?

Acne is a skin infection that occurs when your hair follicles become plugged with oil and dead skin cells. This infection makes the skin swollen and red making it look apparent.
Statistics show that acne affects 8 in every 10 people aged between 11 to 19 years. More than 10 million cases of acne are reported every year. Though it is prevalent in people of all ages, it can affect teenagers the most. The majority of teens develop a type of acne called acne vulgaris. This is the most common variety of all conditions. Acne is not something that shows up in your face, it can also develop on the neck, chest, back, and shoulders.

Many reasons can cause acne. It includes hormonal changes, submissive diet, etc. The main reasons, however, are as follows
• Genetics
You are more likely to experience acne if your parents had it when they were young. But even if the acne is genetic, it's can be cured. There are plenty of products available nowadays to treat acne. Also, a dermatologist from La Midas can help you manage your acne.
• Excess Oil
Another main reason for developing acne is the presence of excess oil in the skin. During your teen years, your body experiences hormonal changes. Your body produces excessive amounts of hormones called androgens during this period. These hormones can be lethal to your complexion. The influx of androgens causes your skin to produce too much oil and blocking your pores and leading to pimples.
• Stress
Your body releases a hormone called cortisol when you are under stress. This hormone can cause your skin to produce more oil. Excess oil can clog your pores leading to acne.

Each teen is unique and so is his acne. The best way to find the most suitable and effective procedure for your acne is to discuss it with a specialized, and professional provider like La Midas. Our team of experts can suggest a variety of procedures to treat acne.
• Photodynamic therapy
It uses medication and a special light or laser to reduce oil production and bacteria. Other lasers may be used alone to help improve acne or scarring.
• Dermabrasion
It removes the top layers of your skin with a rotating brush and would be best for treating acne scarring as opposed to a treatment for acne. Microdermabrasion is a milder treatment that helps remove dead skin cells.
• Chemical Peel
A chemical peel removes the top layers of your skin. This results in revealing less damaged skin underneath. Chemical peels can improve mild acne scarring
• Extraction of whiteheads and blackheads
Experts may use special tools to gently remove whiteheads and blackheads (comedos) that haven't cleared up with topical medications. This technique may cause scarring.
• Steroids
Nodular and cystic lesions can be treated by injecting it with a steroid drug. This therapy results in huge improvement and reduced pain.
